Are SoGlow Glow Sticks safe?
The CE (British Safety) mark indicates that products meet stringent safety standards. (View our certificates here.) SoGlow sticks are made from tough plastic tubing which very rarely breaks or cracks. The liquid inside each Glow Stick is non-toxic and non-flammable (see skin contact, below).
Are SoGlow Glow Sticks certified?
Our glow products are CE certified and EN71 compliant. They contain no banned chemicals such as DBP (Di-Butyl Phthalate). View the CE certificates for our products (PDF file).
Due to small parts which represent a choking hazard (the end connectors and lanyards), glow sticks are not suitable for children under 3.
What happens if a SoGlow Glow Stick punctures?
Punctures are very rare. SoGlow sticks are made with non-toxic liquids; in the case of skin contact, the liquid should be washed off with soapy water. If the liquid comes into contact with eyes, it should be rinsed out with plenty of cold water. Although irritation may occur (it’s like getting shampoo in your eyes), no long-term harm will result.
If the liquid comes into contact with fabric or upholstery, it may stain, and it should be rinsed immediately with water.
How does a SoGlow glow stick work?
There are four components to a glow stick:
- The plastic outer casing
- The fluid you can see inside the stick
- A glass vial that floats freely in the fluid
- Another fluid inside the glass vial.
When you bend a Glow Stick the inner glass vial breaks, allowing the two non-toxic fluids to mix. A chemical reaction occurs, creating the glow (called chemiluminesence).
How do I make a Glow Stick glow brighter or longer?
The temperature and life of a Glow Stick are inversely proportional. In other words, if you place a Glow Stick in hot (not boiling) water, the stick will glow brighter but its life will be shortened. If you place a Glow Stick in the fridge, the reaction will slow down, making the stick glow for a longer period.
Are Glow Sticks waterproof and wind-proof?
Absolutely.
Are Glow Sticks radioactive?
Absolutely not. The glow is created by a chemical reaction (see above), not through the use of radioactive isotopes.
How should I store unused Glow Sticks?
Keep Glow Sticks in their original packaging in a cool, dry place. Stored properly, unactivated Glow Sticks should last for 2 years.
